I have a culture……a deep habit—of always asking the Holy Spirit to take the mic from my hand and sing through me every time I minister in songs. It’s never just about my voice; it’s about His Voice through me.
Sometimes, I literally hear Him speak. Other times, He simply envelopes me in His presence. But every single time, I know, it’s Him.
A Night of Revelation
Two nights ago (this was on February 20, 2025), I woke up and read this scripture (My mentor; My very amazing daddy as I call him- he hates being called daddy though) mentioned the chapter to me in a conversation, and the Holy Spirit woke me up to read it:
“Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”
Luke 5:17 (NKJV)
The moment I read this, I burst into uncontrollable tears. It wasn’t just words on a page; it was a revelation. I found myself praying—desperately crying out—for the weight of God’s glory to rest upon my life and my songs.
Because here’s the thing: as a music minister, there’s always this urge to “prep” the presence of God, to stir up the move of the Father. But what if we realized that He already serenades us with His presence?
What if, instead of striving, we just received?
What if, instead of pushing, we just yielded?
The Mic Is Your Rod
Right in that moment of prayer, I found myself crying, “Can You give a voice to Your call upon my life?”
And then, as clearly as ever, the Holy Spirit reminded me again just as he had told me weeks back:
The mic is your rod.
Just like Moses, I had been given something to part seas, lead, deliver, and bring people into encounters with God.
Moses didn’t create power. He didn’t manufacture miracles. He obeyed and stretched out what God had already given him.
• “And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” (Exodus 4:17 NKJV)
• “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians…'” (Exodus 14:26)
Moses was doing business with God; serving, leading, obeying and the power of the Lord was with him to deliver.
Jesus, in Luke 5:17, was simply teaching, just being in His purpose, and the power of the Lord was with Him to heal.
And that’s the revelation:
We don’t force God’s presence. We walk in it. We don’t summon His power. We carry it.
Revelation That Changes Everything
I used to feel the pressure to prepare for a move of God as if it depended on me. But now I know:
-The power of the Lord is already present when we abide in Him. (John 15:4-5)
-What we carry is greater than what we feel. (2 Corinthians 4:7)
-Ministry is not about performance but surrender. (Zechariah 4:6)
So, if you’re a minister—whether in music, in teaching, in any calling—here’s the word for you:
What is in your hand?
For Moses, it was a rod.
For David, it was a sling.
For Paul, it was a pen.
For you, it might be a mic, a song, a sermon, a skill…. but whatever it is, it’s already anointed. You don’t need to chase a move of God. You are a move of God.
Omolayo’s Summary
The power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal—not because He was striving, but because He was simply being in the presence of the Father.
And that’s where I want to live.
Not striving. Not chasing. Just abiding and watching the Red Seas part as I stretch my rod.
The mic is my rod.
What’s yours?
