When I was a Child

Scripture says:

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

(1 Corinthians 13:11)

Some things belong to the past.

Some things no longer fit where God is taking us.

Some things—harmless as they seem—have the power to slow us down, to pull us back when we should be moving forward.

Lot’s wife learned this lesson the hard way.

The Woman Who Looked Back

The Bible tells us about Lot—his ancestry, his background, his connection to Abraham. But about his wife?

Almost nothing.

Not even her name.

She remains a nameless figure in one of the most tragic moments of Scripture.

She didn’t have to die.

She had every reason to leave Sodom behind. She had seen Abraham’s faith. She had witnessed God’s mercy when Abraham interceded for the city. She had even been rescued once before when kings attacked Sodom, and Abraham stepped in.

But still—when the moment came to flee—she hesitated.

The angels gave a clear command: Run for your lives! Don’t look back!

Yet, something in her heart was still tied to Sodom.

Something made her turn.

And in that one glance, she lost everything.

The Danger of Looking Back

Jesus later referenced her in one short, haunting sentence:

“Remember Lots wife.”

(Luke 17:32)

That’s it.

No explanation. No extra details.

Just a warning.

Because Lot’s wife wasn’t just a woman in a historical event—she was a picture of many of us.

How often do we move forward physically but remain attached emotionally?

How often do we obey half-heartedly, still longing for what God told us to leave behind?

How often do we almost walk in freedom, only to be pulled back by things that no longer serve us?

Attachments That Hinder

It’s not always about material things.

Sometimes it’s the attachment to a past version of ourselves—the one we refuse to outgrow.

Sometimes it’s an unhealthy relationship, a habit, or a mindset that keeps us tied to where we should have left.

Sometimes it’s pride, fear, or comfort—things that feel familiar but are slowly choking our spiritual growth.

Lot’s wife teaches us those lingering attachments can cost us everything.

Not because God isn’t willing to deliver us—but because we refuse to let go.

What Are You Holding On To?

If God told you to move, would you?

Not just physically—but in your heart?

Would you let go of that old mindset? That toxic relationship? That addiction? That fear?

Or would you hesitate—looking back, even for a moment—only to find yourself stuck, unable to move forward?

Lot’s wife reminds us that delayed obedience is still disobedience.

That partial surrender is still rebellion.

That attachment to the past can steal our future.

The Call to Move Forward

The dream reminded me of one thing: Even in the middle of worship, distractions exist.

Even when we’re in God’s presence, the enemy will find subtle ways to tempt us—to anchor our hearts to something that seems small but is heavy enough to slow us down.

But God is calling us to more.

He is calling us to trust Him enough to let go.

Because there’s nothing in Sodom worth losing our future over.

Because the things we cling to in this world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life—are nothing compared to what He has prepared for us.

Because the only way to step into the fullness of His plans is to walk forward without looking back.

So today, I ask you the same question I asked myself when I woke up:

What are you still holding on to?

And more importantly—is it worth it?
